Describe and demonstrate understanding of the key principles involved in palliative care and the role of support workers.

Demonstrate application of palliative care principles in health and wellbeing settings, including care during the last days of life.
The Palliative Care Assessment Package (Levels 3 & 4) developed by Careerforce, with support from Hospice New Zealand, enables support workers and health professionals to gain recognition and credentialisation for competency in palliative and end of life care. The package is built on two NZQA unit standards and includes learning support and assessment for those working in, or aspiring to work in, palliative care settings. Assessment includes short answer questions and observation components. It is relevant for those who have completed, or are enrolled in, Health Assistance and Support Work (Level 3) and Advanced Care and Support (Level 4) programmes, as well as those who have completed Hospice NZ's Fundamentals of Palliative Care programme.
