Core skills this course teaches
Understand physical health inequities
Comprehend NZ statistics and identify inequities across diverse groups (Māori, other ethnicities, LGBTQIA+, disabled, older and rural people).
Identify physical health conditions and diagnostic overshadowing
Recognise key symptoms, characteristics, and indicators of common physical health problems, including cases of diagnostic overshadowing in NZ.

This Level 4 micro-credential recognises the skills and knowledge needed to identify early signs of physical health problems in those experiencing mental health challenges or addiction issues. Graduates are equipped to recognise signs and symptoms, understand health inequities and barriers, develop and implement wellbeing plans, and know when and how to escalate or obtain additional input beyond their role scope.

- Identification of physical health inequities (Māori, ethnicities, rainbow, disabled, older, rural)
- Impacts and barriers contributing to health inequities
- Recognising diagnostic overshadowing in New Zealand
- Common physical health conditions: characteristics, symptoms, indicators
- Understanding barriers and support options
- Understanding support worker scope of responsibility
- Escalation procedures and obtaining extra input outside role scope
- Development and use of wellbeing plans
- Tools and strategies to support physical health for people with mental health/addiction issues
- Supporting clients to develop and implement wellbeing plans
