Primary and Community Health 2: Mental Health and Addictions Early Intervention is an 8-week micro-credential designed for health workers in Aotearoa, including nurses, working in primary and community settings. The course provides practical tools, strategies, resources, and referral pathways, emphasising prevention, early intervention, and culturally safe healthcare. It is delivered as a blend of online sessions and an in-person workshop and totals up to 50 hours of learning. Students develop enhanced skills and confidence to provide timely, effective, and culturally safe care for people with mental health issues and addictions. The course is assessment-based, requiring completion of a case study. It can count towards an approved postgraduate qualification.

Critically reflect on factors impacting effective referral and the integration of prevention and early intervention strategies in the provision of mental health and addictions care.
Must meet the Massey University postgraduate entry requirement
Must hold a relevant bachelor’s degree (or equivalent)
Must provide transcripts of qualifications for approval
