What You're Signing Up For
The Diploma in Languages (DipLang) at the University of Auckland allows students to study one or two foreign languages, recognising their achievement with a formal qualification. This flexible programme can be studied part-time alongside another degree, or independently. Students select courses from a wide range of languages, with options for both beginners and experienced learners. The DipLang helps develop global citizenship, enhances cultural understanding, and opens up career opportunities in sectors such as business, media, tourism, and education.
Course Content
- Study of one or two foreign languages
- Courses available from beginner to advanced levels
- Assessment of language competence during enrolment
- Development of cultural awareness
- Flexible programme structure over 120 points (eight 15-point courses)
- Opportunity to combine with another degree or study part-time
- Selection of courses from an approved schedule
- Languages available: Chinese, Cook Islands Maori, Egyptian (Ancient History), French, German, Greek (Ancient), Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Māori, Samoan, Spanish, Tongan
- Requirement to take at least two courses at Stage III (advanced level)
- Possibility to count eligible language courses towards another programme
