Produce a significant portfolio such as a novel, collection of short stories, creative nonfiction work, or poetry collection.

Develop advanced skills in creative writing techniques through seminars, workshops, and in-depth textual analysis.
The Master of Creative Writing (MCW) at the University of Auckland is designed for writers aiming to complete a large-scale creative writing project. Led by acclaimed fiction writers and poets, students develop their manuscript—be it a novel, short story or poetry collection, or nonfiction—within a vibrant cohort in a workshop setting. Weekly workshops and seminars discuss technique and published writing, with visiting local and international writers enhancing the learning environment. The curriculum is focused on creative practice research, and graduates have gone on to successful publication. The MCW is not a PhD-qualifying programme at Auckland.
