Develop comprehensive knowledge of the structure, function, and sources of law in New Zealand, including Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Tikanga Māori.

Apply critical reasoning and analysis to interpret cases, statutes, and legal situations, and deliver practical legal solutions.

Communicate legal arguments effectively, both in writing and orally, with clarity and persuasiveness.
The AUT Bachelor of Laws (LLB) provides foundational and advanced study of law, the legal system in Aotearoa New Zealand, and core principles required to become a lawyer or work in other legal or policy roles. Students develop skills in interpreting, analysing, reasoning, communication, and ethical legal practice. Graduates will be eligible for admission as a barrister and solicitor after completing additional professional legal studies. The degree includes compulsory law papers, electives, opportunities for double degrees, and cross-credits for students transferring from other universities.
