What You're Signing Up For
The Graduate Certificate in Law (GradCertLaw) is designed for law graduates from New Zealand and overseas who wish to enhance or update their legal knowledge. This 60-point certificate allows students to pursue undergraduate law courses with options for specialisation, skill development, and continuing professional development. The certificate also accommodates those seeking eligibility for legal practice in New Zealand, subject to NZCLE assessment, and offers pathways to further postgraduate legal study.
Course Content
- 60 points of law courses from LLB Parts II, III, and IV
- Option to substitute up to 30 points from the Master of Laws programme (with faculty approval; Legal Research Methodology required)
- With approval, enrolment in a suitable 15-point course from Stage II or higher in a relevant programme elsewhere at the university
- Focus on specialisation according to interests or professional requirements
- Legal Research Methodology (LAW 700) if taking LLM courses
- Fulfils New Zealand Law Society's Continuing Professional Development requirement
