UC's Master of Mathematical Sciences (MMathSci) develops advanced skills in mathematics, data science, statistics, and related fields. You will undertake coursework and research projects, choosing from unendorsed or endorsed pathways (Computational and Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Financial Engineering, Mathematics, or Statistics). Graduates gain expertise in analytical, problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication—preparing for research and industry leadership roles, or progression to doctoral study.
Course Content
- Elective and core courses in mathematics, statistics, and data science (400-level)
- MMathSci Project (MASC684 or MASC686, 45 or 60 pts) or specialist thesis (CAMS689, DATA689, FENG689, MATH697, STAT689)
- Endorsement options: Computational and Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Financial Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics
- Advanced analytical methods and problem-solving
- Independent research via project or thesis
- Courses in financial engineering and, where required, programming (e.g., COSC480)
- Industry and research-relevant topics
What you need to know first
A bachelor's degree in a subject relevant to mathematics (or other approved subjects), with at least 60 points of 300-level courses at a B grade average.
