The NZ Certificate in Heavy Automotive Engineering (Road Transport strand) (Level 4) is an apprenticeship-based programme designed for those working full-time in the heavy automotive industry. It covers the applied skills and knowledge required to diagnose, repair and maintain heavy road transport vehicles, with a mix of night school, block courses at Hawke’s Bay and Tairāwhiti campuses, and on-the-job training. The qualification consists of 16 courses totalling 240 credits, typically completed over four years, with a structured progression each year. The programme includes specialist content that may require campus-based delivery, such as training in electronic brake and stability control systems.
