Be able to work independently as a technician specialising in the servicing and repair of power boat engines and marine systems.

Demonstrate safe operating procedures in a marine engineering environment.
As an apprentice, you’ll work alongside experienced technicians in the workplace, developing diagnostic and troubleshooting skills while learning to identify and repair faults in powerboat systems, including two and four-stroke engines and water jet propulsion systems. It’s a hands-on mechanical trade focused on solving complex problems, with training and assessments covering all aspects of the trade.
Training combines technical skill and diagnostic expertise as you progress from routine maintenance to more complex repairs, replacing worn or damaged parts to manufacturer specifications and learning how different motor sizes and hull configurations affect performance and maintenance needs, all within a trade that takes pride in solving complex mechanical problems.
Entry Requirements
Legal eligibility to study in NZ (immigration status verified)
Employed in a marine environment
Minimum of 16 years of age
