This Level 3 certificate provides practical training in welding, fabrication, fitting, precision machining, and maintenance for metalworking industries. Students gain skills using industrial machinery and tools in well-equipped workshops and learn relevant trade theory, health and safety, and workplace communication. The programme aims to prepare graduates for rewarding careers in mechanical engineering and manufacturing, enabling them to repair, improve, and adapt machinery for industry and recreational interests.
Course Content
- Steel, stainless steel, and aluminium welding
- Steel cutting, forming, and pipe bending using industrial machinery (e.g. plate bending machine, guillotine)
- Project design and build (e.g. vehicle deck, bull bar, roll cage, machinery components)
- Operation of lathes, milling machines, and drilling machines
- Precision machining to fine tolerances
- Health and safety practices
- Trade and engineering theory
- Workplace communication skills
