In-person study
Face-to-face learning in a physical classroom setting
It will take a total of 1 year

Gain practical abilities in engine repair, servicing, electrical systems, and basic engineering and welding tasks.

Undertake basic maintenance of petrol and diesel vehicles, including brakes, steering, suspension, battery, and lighting systems.

Learn the basics of automotive electrical operations and control, including battery testing and wire repairs.
Discover the basics of automotive engineering including the use of tools, basic engineering tasks, minor servicing on engines and driveline systems, and fundamental knowledge of automotive electrical systems. This Level 3 programme prepares students for an automotive apprenticeship, focusing on both petrol and diesel vehicles and including workplace experience.
What you need to know first
Under 20 years: 10 NCEA Level 1 numeracy credits and 10 NCEA Level 1 literacy credits, or equivalent knowledge and skills. A pre-entry interview may be required.
20+ years: Special admission may be granted. Contact provider if under 20 requirements are not met.
