Students develop news sourcing, writing, and publishing abilities across print and digital platforms, alongside technical skills in media photography and videography. They gain practical experience by contributing to the Wintec online newspaper and collaborating on real-world projects with industry partners. The programme includes media law, ethical codes, and the relationship of Te Tiriti o Waitangi to journalism practice. Successful graduates can progress to the second year of Wintec's Bachelor of Communication degree. The diploma is taught by industry professionals and includes internships and newsroom experience.
What you need to know first
40 credits at NCEA Level 2 including 10 literacy credits and 10 numeracy credits or recognised equivalent
OR completed relevant course at NZQF Level 3 or equivalent
