What You're Signing Up For
Designed for those with an undergraduate degree, the Graduate Diploma in Arts allows learners to broaden their expertise or transition to a new field in as little as one year. Students can select courses from a wide range of areas, including creative writing, criminology, education, event management, global tourism, international studies, interpreting, Māori development, NZ Sign Language, psychology, and social sciences. The programme prepares graduates for postgraduate study or career advancement and is available full-time or part-time at AUT’s City and North Campuses.
Course Content
- Creative Writing: including introduction, Māori storytelling, prose, poetry, creative non-fiction, and creative writing projects
- Criminology and Criminal Justice: understanding crime, policing, deviance, restorative justice, crime in the media, research methods
- Education: critical questions, social media and learning, global citizenship, education policy and alternatives
- Event Management: event planning, design, production, partnerships, digital media, leadership
- Global Tourism: tourism issues and sustainability, ethics, cultures, field studies, innovation
- International Studies: intercultural competence, human rights, diversity and inclusion, globalisation, international relations
- Interpreting & Translation: translation and interpreting principles, practice, ethics, legal and health studies, advanced interpreting
- Māori Development: history, te Tiriti o Waitangi, te reo Māori, contemporary Māori issues, indigenous perspectives
- NZ Sign Language & Deaf Studies: introductory and advanced NZSL, Deaf culture, comparative language analysis, special topics
- Psychology: introductory and advanced psychology, abnormal and social psychology, psychological assessment, brain and behaviour, health and developmental psychology
- Social Sciences: social research methods, social institutions, ethics, politics, diversity and democratic participation
