Graduates will be prepared for registration within the Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ) registered nurse scope of practice.

Provide nursing care that honours Te Tiriti o Waitangi and incorporates Māori pedagogies and cultural responsiveness in practice.

Puawānanga Tapuhi Māori (Bachelor of Nursing Māori) at NorthTec is an NZQA Level 7 degree that integrates Mātauranga Māori and evidence-based practices into nursing education. The programme aims to produce competent registered nurses prepared to work in diverse healthcare settings. It emphasises Te Tiriti o Waitangi, health equity, and cultural safety in nursing practice, and includes substantial clinical placements in Northland. Learning is delivered through a blend of face-to-face, online, and marae-based teaching, grounded in Māori pedagogies. Graduates will be ready for registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and employment across the health sector.

Be at least 16 years old at programme commencement.
Meet minimum academic pathway (New Zealand University Entrance) OR successful completion of an approved Health qualification at Level 4+ OR a recognised equivalent.
Able to read, write, and communicate in English at a basic level.
Physically able to complete programme-specific outcomes.
For applicants whose first language is not English, IELTS score of 6.5 (no band below 6.5) or accepted international equivalence.
Health clearances, immunisations, and vaccination evidence required if accepted.
Two referees.
NZ Police vetting (for clinical placements).
