Gain hands-on experience through placements in a variety of healthcare settings, applying knowledge through clinical nursing practice under supervision.
The New Zealand Diploma in Enrolled Nursing (Level 5) at Otago Polytechnic prepares students for registration as an Enrolled Nurse with the Nursing Council of New Zealand. Students acquire foundational skills and knowledge in nursing, social sciences, and human biology, through a blend of face-to-face and online learning, clinical skills labs, and hands-on placements across diverse healthcare settings. Graduates are eligible to sit the NCNZ Registration Exam and, upon meeting all criteria, may apply for a practicing certificate to work as Enrolled Nurses. Māori and Pasifika graduates are especially encouraged due to strong demand in healthcare sectors.

NCEA Level 2, including 12 credits in Level 1 Mathematics and 12 credits in Level 2 Science

Develop a comprehensive understanding of core nursing theory, human body systems, social sciences, and pharmacology relevant to enrolled nursing practice.
OR New Zealand Certificate in Study and Career Preparation (Level 3) or Otago Polytechnic Health Pathway
OR New Zealand Certificate at Level 4 or above in a relevant health or science subject
OR recognised equivalent (e.g. bridging or pre-health programme)
For international students: equivalent academic entry, as determined by country
Cover letter, CV, health declaration, and two referee reports
Police vetting and clearance (NZ and other countries if applicable)
Consent for and completion of vaccination records and health documentation
English Language: Overall IELTS 6.5 (no band <6.5) OR OET C+ in each band OR NZ University Entrance
Must be physically and psychologically able to engage in clinical nursing practice
