Be able to apply engineering and scientific principles in the design, development, and manufacturing of food products, with knowledge spanning food science, process engineering, and food business.

This four-year, NZQF Level 8 honours degree integrates food science, engineering, and business disciplines. Students specialise in either Food Product Technology or Food Process Engineering, gaining practical laboratory, workshop, and project experience. The programme features hands-on industry placements totalling 800 hours, preparation for immediate entry into key roles in the New Zealand and international food industries, and pathways for postgraduate study. The degree is IFT-accredited and covers the theory and practical skills needed to innovate, design, and lead in food manufacturing, quality management, product development, and process improvement.

It will take a total of 4 years
This course requires 40 hours per week
Move directly into key technical or process roles in the food sector, including product development, process improvement, food engineering, and related positions, without further training.

Address practical challenges in food manufacturing and innovation, drawing on laboratory, workshop, and project experience with direct industry engagement.
Recommended: NCEA Level 3 Mathematics (16 credits, incl. Algebra, Differentiation, or Integration), Physics (16 credits), Chemistry (14 credits)
For Cambridge/IB: A Level Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry (C grade or 5 points Higher Level)
English language requirements for non-native speakers
