Develop practical and technical abilities to independently perform composite sail making tasks in a marine environment.

Understand and implement workplace health and safety procedures specific to sail making.
As a work-based apprentice, every day is different. You will gain hands-on experience with industrial sewing machines and advanced synthetic, highperformance materials, learning how they behave in different conditions. Alongside this, you’ll build your understanding of aerodynamics, follow technical specifications and develop the skills to craft sails for real sailing conditions.
Use computer-controlled cutting machines, industrial sewing machines, and hand tools to cut sail panels, assemble sails, and install battens, grommets, slides, and hardware, including hand-finishing edges. Develop an understanding of aerodynamics, interpret technical specifications, and build skills to produce sails for real sailing conditions.
Entry Requirements
Legal eligibility to study in NZ (immigration status verified)
Employed in a marine environment
Minimum of 16 years of age
