Demonstrate knowledge of New Zealand road user law relevant to heavy vehicle operators.

Identify and apply principles of fatigue management and legal work time requirements.
This short course provides theoretical and practical training necessary to gain a New Zealand Class 2 driver's licence for medium heavy rigid motor vehicles. Covering road user law, fatigue management, and the legal requirements for log book work-time recording, the programme is comprised of both in-class and practical components. Two NZQA unit standards are completed as part of the course: 24089 (fatigue management and logbooks) and 17574 (operating a heavy rigid motor vehicle). The course is delivered over 2-3 days, with several intakes across the year, and is not available to international students.
What you need to know first
Be at least 16 years old at the time the programme commences.
Be able to read, write, and communicate in English at a basic level.

Gain skills in completing and recording work time in compliance with logbook regulations.
Be physically able to complete the programme-specific outcomes.
Have held a full Class 1 driver’s licence for a minimum of six months.
Hold a current Class 2 learner’s licence (requires passing theory tests).
For applicants whose first language is not English: IELTS 5.5 with no band lower than 5, or accepted equivalent.
Blended study
