Demonstrate knowledge of road user law, fatigue management, and logbook requirements for commercial drivers of vehicles over 18,000kg.

Gain practical skills in vehicle operation and compliance in accordance with regulatory standards required for Class 4 licensing.
This NZTA and NZQA approved short course provides students with the knowledge and skills to gain their Class 4 heavy vehicle licence, covering theoretical requirements in road user law, fatigue management, and logbook recording. The course leads to credits for specific unit standards and includes both online study and in-class workshops, with access to regional support and facilities. Upon completion, students are able to apply for their Class 4 licence at a driver licensing agent.

Minimum age 16 years
Ability to read, write and communicate in English at a basic level

Achieve required unit standards to qualify for Class 4 licensing and proceed to driver licensing agent application.
Physical ability to complete programme outcomes
If English is not a first language, IELTS score of 5.5 with no band lower than 5, or accepted international equivalence
Current full Class 2 licence for a minimum of 6 months, or 3 months if over 25 years old
Current Class 4 learner licence (no theory test required)
Approved driver's log book
