The STCW-10 Standards of Training Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers course is designed for those seeking work on super yachts, cruise ships, oil rigs, merchant vessels, or in the commercial maritime industry. This internationally recognised short course covers five key competency areas with no sea time required, and can be completed within one week. Certification in all areas is required for supervisors of crew members on commercial ships. It meets Maritime New Zealand and international requirements for maritime safety and passenger protection.
What you need to know first
Must be fit and capable of undertaking training for sea survival and fire-fighting
Ability to swim in a pool with and without a lifejacket, and stay afloat (tread water) while wearing clothing

Provision of a current medical certificate (accepted: Dive medical, Maritime NZ Seafarers Medical, or MCA ENG 1 medical certificate)
Sufficient English language skills to perform required duties
Refresher training applicants: must provide company letter confirming appropriate seagoing service and valid current STCW certificates
Employment on fishing vessels
