This night class at UCOL is designed for those interested in a welding career or seeking to develop practical welding skills. Covering MIG, TIG, and Arc welding, the course provides hands-on experience with industry-standard equipment and a variety of metals, including aluminium, stainless steel, and steel. There is an emphasis on health and safety, weld process understanding, problem-solving, and avoiding weld defects. The course welcomes students to bring small projects for practical learning, and demonstrations on oxy-acetylene or plasma cutting can be arranged.
Course Content
- Introduction to welding processes and basic welding techniques
- Health and Safety in welding environments
- Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG)
- Manual Metal Arc Welding (Stick)
- Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG) with carbon steel, stainless steel, and/or aluminium
- Welding machines, metals, and equipment
- Problem-solving common weld issues and avoiding defects
- Optional: Oxy-acetylene welding/cutting, plasma cutting
- Practical projects and demonstrations
- Individual interest sessions in final weeks
