The New Zealand Diploma in Applied Science (Level 5) at UCOL prepares students for supervised entry-level positions in science and technology fields, including laboratory, manufacturing, and research settings. Students develop professional, laboratory, analytical, and reporting skills through practical and theoretical modules in chemistry, quality assurance, microbiology, biochemistry, and statistics. Graduates are ready for employment as science technicians or progression to higher study.
What you need to know first
NCEA Level 2 including 14 credits in science, OR a Level 4 qualification in science, OR relevant equivalent.
Special Admission: 20 years or older with no standard requirements, assessed individually.

Utilise computing technology to analyse scientific data relevant to workplace settings.
Discretionary Admission: Under 20 and not meeting standard requirements, assessed for preparedness.
All applicants whose first language is not English or te reo Māori must provide evidence of English proficiency.
