What You're Signing Up For

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at the University of Auckland is an advanced research degree enabling students to undertake original independent research under expert supervision. The PhD is available in more than 100 different subjects and typically requires three to four years of full-time study (or six to eight years part-time). Students develop their thesis proposal in the first year, progress through confirmation milestones, and submit a thesis for examination, which includes an oral component. Doctoral candidates benefit from access to skills workshops, library and research adviser support, and postgraduate career guidance.
