What You're Signing Up For
The New Zealand Certificate in Creativity (Level 4) is an 18-week, NZQA-approved introductory programme for aspiring musical artists. It provides immersive education in music creation, genre exploration, digital audio technology, performance, and creative processes. The course covers foundational skills essential for contributing to the music industry and community, supporting further study, and building musical confidence and capability.
Course Content
- Musician’s Toolkit – essential music skills (4 weeks)
- Genre Exploration I – technical, creative, and cultural study of one genre (4 weeks)
- Genre Exploration II – expanding experience through a second specified genre (4 weeks)
- Genre Exploration III – deepening understanding of a third genre (4 weeks)
- Industry-standard DAW techniques and sound design
- Chart writing and arranging
- Listening analysis
- Reflection, feedback and improvement cycle
- Live performance practice and band room etiquette
- PA setup
- Performance workshops
- Competency assessment and music technology project
What you need to know first
Students must be 16 years of age or older
Domestic student status
NCEA Level 1 or equivalent
Interview/audition is required with demonstration of some musical proficiency (pitch, time)
If English is not the first language: IELTS General or Academic overall band score of 5.5 (no band lower than 5) or equivalent
