The New Zealand Certificate in Music at UCOL is a level 4 certificate designed for students with musical talent wanting to advance their career in music. It covers individual and band performance across popular music styles, music theory, live sound and recording technology, songwriting/composition, and music management. The program offers skills in performance, composition, music technology, and music industry knowledge to prepare students for professional work in music. It includes practical performance, digital audio workstation skills, live sound, event management, and industry knowledge with 120 credits over 40 weeks. Entry requires NCEA Level 2 or equivalent, musical proficiency via audition, and for international students, English proficiency and academic equivalency. Additional costs for materials apply and scholarships are available. It is NZQA approved and offered by UCOL.

This course requires 35 hours per week

Compose and perform original music using traditional and electronic methods.
NCEA Level 2 or equivalent academic achievement
Demonstrated musical proficiency through audition or recording
For international applicants: IELTS Academic 5.5 with no band below 5 or equivalent
