Develop and apply strategies for building community resilience and reducing disaster vulnerability.
The Master of Disaster Risk Management and Development at AUT equips students to tackle complex disaster risks through advanced study and research. Aligned with best practice, the programme develops capacity to reduce risks, build resilient communities, and manage disaster response and recovery. The structure includes core courses, research methods, electives, and a thesis or dissertation. The programme is delivered through flexible learning (blended online and on-campus block courses). Graduates may work with NGOs, emergency management agencies, ministries, or international organisations.

Bachelor’s degree with a B- grade or higher in courses at a level 7 or equivalent.

It will take a total of 18 months

Effectively manage disaster response and post-disaster recovery through research-informed practice.
In exceptional circumstances, an appropriate combination of academic and professional experience.
Evidence of ability to study at postgraduate level.
Evidence of current professional practice.
Completion of relevant prerequisite courses as specified by the Board of Studies may be required.
IELTS (Academic) 6.5 overall with no band less than 6.0 for English language (international students).
