Complete a minimum of 200 hours of supervised counselling practice with clients.
The Counselling Major within AUT's Bachelor of Health Science prepares students to work as professional counsellors with a diverse client base. The programme covers the history and theory of counselling, the relational counselling model, includes significant work-integrated learning (including 200 hours of counselling practice and bicultural components such as marae visits and Te Tiriti o Waitangi studies), and meets the requirements for graduates to apply for provisional membership with the New Zealand Association of Counsellors. Both full-time and part-time study options are available.
