The Master of Counselling (MCouns) at Massey University is a 240-credit, part-time postgraduate qualification. It is designed for people seeking to become credentialed counsellors, delivering services in schools, community agencies, health, and private practice. The course emphasises a bicultural and multicultural approach, cultural humility, and development of competencies necessary for effective counselling practice. Study involves online learning, compulsory in-person workshops (wānanga), extensive practice placements, supervised professional development, and completion of a research project. Graduates are eligible for provisional NZAC membership. The programme is not open to international students.

Completion of a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Guidance, or Postgraduate Diploma in Rehabilitation (endorsed in Rehabilitation Counselling), or an approved equivalent qualification, with at least a B average
