The Te Taketake Diploma in Applied Addictions Counselling is a 2-year, part-time NZQA Level 7 qualification designed for those already in the mental health and addictions field. Developed by Moana House Training Institute and Otago Polytechnic, it provides the technical knowledge, theory, and practical experience required to deliver professional addictions counselling. Recognised by DAPAANZ, the diploma emphasises clinical skills, reflective practice, and personal growth. It includes wānanga, workshops, and a 400-hour clinical placement. Graduates are eligible to apply for DAPAANZ registration.

Demonstrate awareness and competence in engaging with clients from various backgrounds and engaging with whānau.
Must already be working in the mental health and addictions sector or have access to work with tangata whaiora (clients)
Arrange your own clinical placement (400 supervised hours required)
At least two years in recovery from any substance or process addictions or offending
Permission for a Police Check
Basic computer skills and access to computer/internet
Ability to pay course fees or obtain a scholarship
