This programme prepares you for a rewarding career as an outdoor leader or instructor. You will become technically skilled in a range of outdoor pursuits, develop expertise in leadership, sustainability, environmental education, and the supervision and instruction of outdoor activities. It includes real-world work-integrated experiences, where you will plan, lead, and guide participants (including youth and people with disabilities) in various outdoor contexts. The programme emphasizes professional, ethical, and safe conduct in both familiar and unfamiliar environments, cultural competence, and emergency care skills.

Blended study
This is a mix of online learning & face-to-face sessions

It will take a total of 1 year

Understand and promote sustainable and ethical practices within a variety of outdoor contexts.
Ability to swim at least 50 metres
Ability to carry a full overnight tramping pack on multi day trips
Ability to ride a bicycle
Current two-day Comprehensive First Aid Certificate
Declaration of convictions and completion of New Zealand Police Vetting (if applicable)
Access to personal equipment and clothing for participation
English proficiency: IELTS 5.5 Academic with no band less than 5.0 (for non-native speakers)
