It will take a total of 14 weeks

Apply principles of personal safety, basic survival, and environmental guardianship while participating in a range of outdoor activities.

Prepare and plan for both land-based and water-based activities, considering individual responsibilities and group safety.

Improve physical fitness and self-management to handle the challenges of outdoor environments.
The NZ Certificate in Outdoor Experiences (Level 3) at Eastern Institute of Technology is a practical, full-time programme aimed at those passionate about outdoor adventure and seeking a career in the outdoors. The course provides field trips and a mix of land- and water-based activities, including tramping, mountain biking, kayaking, paddle boarding, and overnight camping. Students will learn survival and navigation skills, build their own shelter, and follow principles of safety and environmental protection (kaitiakitanga). Graduates will be prepared for entry-level roles in adventure tourism, search and rescue, the NZ Defence Force, and conservation, or may continue to advanced outdoor or exercise qualifications.
