Develop and apply understanding of fitness, health, nutrition, and human anatomy/physiology in sport and recreation settings.

Design, deliver and assess sport and recreational fitness programmes to a wide range of clients.

Communicate effectively, provide leadership, and work constructively in group settings within the sport, recreation or fitness industry.
This one-year Level 5 diploma at NMIT provides foundational knowledge and skills for employment or further study in sport, recreation, and exercise. The programme goes beyond playing sports, focusing on the theory and practical application of health, nutrition, exercise science, anatomy and physiology, planning, coaching and motivating people. Extensive practical experience is included, using both onsite and community-based exercise facilities. Graduates are prepared for a range of careers in the sport and recreation industries or pathway to higher-level study, including Level 6 and Bachelor qualifications.

Applicants under 20 years: 48 credits NCEA Level 2 across 4 subjects or equivalent.
