This programme is for people working as pool lifeguards, providing them with essential supervision, rescue, and emergency response skills. It prepares students to confidently care for swimmers and respond effectively in aquatic environments.
Blended study
This is a mix of online learning & face-to-face sessions
It will take a total of 35 weeks

Develop the ability to effectively supervise swimmers and pool users to ensure safety.

Demonstrate rescue techniques for a range of aquatic casualty scenarios.

Identify potential hazards and manage risks in aquatic facilities.
The NZ Certificate in Aquatics (Pool Lifeguard) (Level 3) is designed for individuals working or volunteering at pools or aquatic facilities. The programme covers aquatic supervision techniques, aquatic rescue, hazard management, and emergency response. Training is both workplace-based and online, and involves two main stages: initial training/assessment followed by on-job validation, including supervised hours, facility induction, and completing a Pool Lifeguard Logbook. Graduates gain awards that recognize their skills and abilities to work effectively as pool lifeguards.
What you need to know first
Currently working in a paid job at a pool or aquatic facility, or self-employed, or volunteering regularly at such a facility
