Designed for those working in mountain biking who wish to grow their skills in leading this activity. Developed with industry associations, this elective trains participants in planning, preparing, leading, guiding, and instructing mountain bike activities at various NZQA levels.
Blended study
This is a mix of online learning & face-to-face sessions

Graduates learn how to plan and prepare mountain bike sessions tailored to group needs and environmental conditions.

Learners develop the skills to lead groups safely on Grade 2-4 trails and evaluate the effectiveness of their leadership.

Level 5 (Guiding) graduates can guide mountain bike activities in more advanced, back country settings, including longer and higher grade trails.
The Outdoor Leadership activity: Mountain Biking course is intended for people working or volunteering in outdoor recreation who wish to enhance their mountain biking leadership abilities. The course covers leadership, guiding, and instruction of mountain bike activities, with practical workplace assessments and online components. Available at NZQA Levels 4 and 5 (for both guiding and instruction), it enables graduates to plan, prepare, lead, guide, and instruct mountain biking activities at a range of skill levels and environments, from front country to back country terrain.
What you need to know first
Must be working in outdoor recreation (paid, self-employed, or volunteer with regular and consistent shifts).
