Be equipped to instruct clients one-on-one and in group fitness environments, utilising best-practice exercise programming principles.

The Cert 4 Fitness (Level 4) programme at Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology prepares students for entry into the fitness industry, combining hands-on applied learning with pathways for individual and group fitness instruction. Over one year full-time, students cover foundational subjects in anatomy, exercise programming, nutrition, business skills, and marketing. Teaching approaches support all learning styles and include field trips, exercise workloads, and practical experiences. The course awards both the New Zealand Certificate in Exercise (Level 4) and the New Zealand Certificate in Freestyle Group Exercise (Level 4), as well as a First Aid Certificate. Graduates are ready to pursue careers or further study in fitness, sport, and wellbeing professions.

Develop professional skills in marketing, client retention, and the business aspects of the fitness industry.
Under 20: NCEA Level 1, or equivalent
Special admission may be granted on basis of capability (for applicants who do not meet academic requirements)
Applicants over 20 may be admitted through special admission
English: IELTS 5.5 (no band lower than 5), or evidence of equivalent English language proficiency (e.g., NZ Certificate in English Language Level 3)
