Students will learn the scientific principles underlying athletic performance, health, and wellbeing.

Students will develop coaching techniques and practical experience through workshops, practicums, and internships.

Students will understand the organizational and commercial aspects of the sport industry.
The Bachelor of Sport at the University of Canterbury is a flexible, three-year full-time degree that provides an overview of sport as both a global culture and professional business. The program enables students to specialize in areas such as high-performance science, sport coaching, training, health, wellbeing, and sport management. It includes practicums, workshops, field trips, and a 120-hour internship in the final year. With options for part-time and online distance study, students can tailor their education to their interests and career goals in sport and fitness industries. Entry requires University Entrance or equivalent, with transition programs available. The degree includes compulsory courses in sport coaching, anatomy, physiology, sport history and society, sport business and governance, and opportunities for majors and minors across diverse subjects. Graduates are prepared for roles as trainers, coaches, sports scientists, and management positions in sport and health sectors.
