Upon completion you will have the introductory knowledge and skills to support children’s learning and development in early childhood contexts.

Learn to incorporate the national early childhood curriculum, Te Whāriki, into teaching and learning programmes.
This diploma gives you introductory skills to launch a career in early childhood education. You will study child development, teaching strategies, the national curriculum (Te Whāriki), and bicultural and multicultural practices. A key component is supervised practical placement in an early childhood centre. Graduates may work in centre-based, home-based, hospital, parent-led, or culturally-based early childhood settings, or continue to further study towards teacher registration.
Entry Requirements
If under 20 or international: NCEA Level 2 with passes in English/Te Reo Māori, OR New Zealand Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Care (Level 3 or 4), OR evidence of ability to meet academic requirements
