Develop skills to teach in the bicultural context of New Zealand, integrating Te Tiriti o Waitangi, tikanga Māori, and supporting Pasifika learners.
This three-year Bachelor degree combines theory and practical experience to provide in-depth understanding of children's learning and development in the bicultural context of Aotearoa New Zealand. Students gain knowledge of educational theory, childhood development, curriculum design, and practical teaching skills, including placements in licensed early childhood services. The programme emphasises bicultural competence, understanding Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Māori language and Tikanga, and includes noho marae experiences. Upon completion, graduates are eligible for teacher registration and provisional certification with the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand.

It will take a total of 3 years

Combine theory and hands-on practice to teach, assess, and reflect in early childhood settings, including extensive placements.
What you need to know first
Must be 17 years of age or older at programme start
Meet Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand’s entry requirements
University Entrance or a recognised equivalent (if under 20 years)
Demonstrated ability to study at tertiary level for those without standard entry (including possible completion of NZ Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Care Level 4)
English language and numeracy competency assessed (Step 4 Literacy, Step 5 Numeracy, and minimum scores on writing, reading, and numeracy standards)
Authorise background police check and safety vetting
Complete health declaration
Participate in interview process and cultural competency assessment (Te Kākano)
Provide certified documentation
