The Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Primary) prepares graduates for a rewarding career teaching primary and intermediate school children (Years 1 to 8, typically ages 5–13) in New Zealand. This practical, full-time one-year postgraduate diploma combines on-campus and online coursework with extensive practicum placements in schools. Teaching draws on contemporary digital learning, te reo Māori, social justice, and the Treaty of Waitangi. Graduates become eligible for provisional teacher certification and develop strong relationships with employers. Flexible online and in-person delivery options are available.

- Professional experience in primary/intermediate schools
- Practicum placements: multiple blocks across different schools
- Core courses in teaching and learning (Ako)
- Curriculum courses: Maths & Literacy 1 and 2
- Professional practice courses (EDPRAC 615, EDPRAC 616)
- Coursework in the New Zealand curriculum: languages, social sciences, science, technology, arts, health & PE
- Education theory (Education after Society)
- Te Ao Māori (including basic proficiency in te reo Māori)
- Capstone portfolio
- Preparation for classroom digital learning
