Move beyond basic composition and rules to create striking, emotional photographic images.

Use advanced studio lighting and on-camera flash as creative tools.
The Certificate in Intermediate Photography at UCOL is designed for advanced amateur photographers and graduates of UCOL’s Certificate in Introductory Photography. This course will help you expand your technical and creative capabilities, develop a keen eye for composition, and learn advanced studio lighting and on-camera flash techniques. You'll further develop digital imaging skills using Adobe Camera RAW and Photoshop, and work with industry-standard equipment including Canon DSLR cameras in professional studio environments.
What you need to know first
Certificate in Introductory Photography (Level 5) or equivalent academic achievement
On a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the Executive Dean

UCOL is a polytechnic built around the kind of learning that actually sticks — hands-on, practical, and grounded in the real world. With campuses across the lower North Island and a programme range that stretches from trades and health to creative arts and IT, it's a strong fit for learners who want a clear path into work without unnecessary detours. Whether you're fresh out of school, changing direction, or building on what you already know, UCOL is set up to meet you where you are.
